Moving on up...Local lad has unusual first new home
18/04/2007
A Burslem family have found an unusual way to help their son get onto the property ladder, because when nineteen year old David Bridgewater moved into his first new home - a luxury self contained apartment - all he had to do was walk upstairs!
"David wanted his independence but couldn't afford to buy a house," explained David's Mum, Lydia Palmer, a community worker for St John's Church in Burslem.
Having recently moved into a new family home on Pochin Homes development, Hadderidge Gardens; Mum Lydia and step-father Lee decided to convert the top floor of their three-storey house into the ultimate self contained apartment.
Boasting a double bed, two sofas, a dressing room, en-suite bathroom, a multi-gym, dining table, keyboards and guitars the Wycliffe Street bachelor pad has everything a first time buyer needs whilst keeping David close to family life.
Indeed, step-father and son even continue to cycle to work together as the pair both work in Quality Glass' Cobridge based factory.
"Usually homebuyers are keen to use the top storey as a large master bedroom," said Pochin Homes Sales Manager, Mark Scott.
'However, the Palmers were keen to give up this luxury to help David, and also because they are planning to become a foster family for local children and were keen to keep their bedroom on the same floor as the child's bedroom."
